Before saying, “let’s pray,” as he prepared to leave Brussels, on 16 May 1985, Saint Pope Paul II pontificated to the crowd at the Grote Markt / Grand Place de Bruxelles (Town Square of Brussels) in ‘Our Father in Heaven’:

“The evening is already falling on the city. May the darkness of night not darken your hearts! Watch or rest in the peace of God, so that His light may be more beautiful, stronger tomorrow in your hearts, that it illuminates all your houses and that it illuminates your steps on the path of true happiness, on the path of the full salvation that God is preparing for us.

And what a prayer …

               9Our Father in heaven,

Whose father? OUR father! All of us! Without one exception! Jesus addressed His prayer to all humanity, Jews and Gentiles, including the “remnants of Israel, the half-breeds” in the Galilee.

               Hallowed be your name.

Yes, God is GREAT with eternal and infinite love and unconditional, endless grace.

               10 Your kingdom come,
                your will be done,
On earth, as it is in heaven.

Where is God’s kingdom? Where is heaven? Wherever God is!

Where is God? Inside our souls!

Christians believe everyone created in His image is His Temple.

And, what about God’s DNA? Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, former Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom, explains:

“The extraordinary thing we now know, thanks to Crick and Watson’s discovery of DNA and the decoding of the human and other genomes, is that all life, everything, all the three million species of life and plant life all have the same source. We all come from a single source … God” (Epilogue: Fast to Feast; Subsection: Krista Tippett with Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks; Page 146; Kindle Locations 2949-2953).

11 Give us this day our daily bread,

Of course, “we don’t live with bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4: 4). So, with ‘God in me and me in God,’ God empowers us to discern, to understand the circumstances of others, to love the other as the way God loves us.

12 and forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.

Forgive us, Lord, for castigating others with disrespect, dishonor, and indignity as we also forgive those who treat us as human filth.

13 And lead us not into temptation,
                      But deliver us from evil.

Show us, Lord, how to live a Spirit-filled life and help us become obedient to your will.
