It’s true. The moment we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we’re stuck. As Christians, we’re connected and interconnected in the one Body of Christ, whether we want to or like it or not.

Membership is simply a given. Eugene H. Peterson in ‘A Long Obedience in the Same Direction’ says: “We can no more be a Christian and have nothing to do with the church than we can be a person and not be in a family. It is part of the fabric of redemption.

We are a family in Christ. When we become Christians, we are among brothers and sisters in faith. No Christian is an only child. But God knows, we are not always one big happy family. Considering there are thousands of variations in our belief systems in the one God with Jesus Christ and God’s Holy Spirit as One in the Trinity, God remains sovereign, and Jesus Christ sits at the head of the table. The Church is His Body. And, contrary to the opinions of some, Jesus says, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us (Mark 9:38-41).

Despite our differences, we all celebrate our Faith with bread and wine. We might not agree on everything, but how ingenious? Bread and wine? Simple! It’s human. Spiritual! In ‘Our Work Toward Unity,’ Saint Pope John Paul II proclaims: “our efforts must be directed towards conversion, conversion from within to a deeper life in Christ. This transformation enables us to see one another in a new light.”

Because we differ – not one of God’s unique somebodies thinks alike, none is a robot – we can learn from the very least to the very best among us.
